From HOWARD BROWN, Professor Physics at NYU

Larry has always been one of the primary people I go to when there is

some aspect of physics I don't understand. To him I suppose that many

of my questions are pretty low level. Nevertheless he has always been

most gracious and generous with his time in leading me to

enlightenment. He has never made me feel that he had better things to

do with his time. From these encounters I know personally that he is a

terrific teacher. I also know that he is a great teacher from my

stints as Director of Undergraduate Studies where part of the job is

to scan course evaluations.

Larry of course has correspondents all around the globe. He has been

kind enough to send my wife, Nancy, stamps from all over the

place. Speaking of wives, Grace is no slouch either. Larry gave me an

article by Grace that describes how whales survive the very large

pressures of the deep. It's a fascinating article and I highly

recommend it. (Larry has also written a few articles worth reading!)
