Amaretto Sour (and Whiskey Sour)


Ingredients: amaretto, lemon, sugar.

Rub the rim of an old fashioned glass or cocktail glass with lemon, and dip repeatedly into granulated sugar until it has a good "frosted" rim. Shake two jiggers of amaretto with the juice of a whole or large half lemon. Strain into glass and add ice. Garnish with a slice of lemon and a maraschino cherry. Double if necessary.

Use whiskey (and increase the proportion of lemon) instead of Amaretto to make a Whiskey Sour. Try adding a splash of grenadine for color. Warning: Once you have made these drinks with real lemon you will never be able to drink those "mixers" again.
